Opening Night- November 7, 2013

I promised to mix up today's blog... and I did not. Tomorrow! Tomorrow I'll do something special!!!

Though today was pretty special. It started off with my academic advisement appointment. We made a tentative course plan for my four years here, as well as decided what classes I should aim to enroll in next semester.

Remember how I said I was too ambitious? Yeah. In my course plan today, I discovered that if I attempt to do about 3/4 of everything I want to do at this school, I'll be taking 18 units every single semester and I still won't fit it all in. Looks like I need to prioritize what I really want to learn too..... I wish I could do everything!! I'll get it figured out though... Hopefully...

Anyways. Before and after my Text studies class, I was working furiously to finish my Spanish project.  I did eventually finish, 40 minutes before the class started. Still, hooray!!! I'm proud that I got it done.

Spanish class itself was really fun. My professor is going through so much in her personal life right now, and we can tell... I'll be praying for her. But still, it left her pretty out of it and very joking with us. We laughed throughout a lot of class :)

And then it was time to go to the theater!!!! Opening night!!!! Golly, I love the theater. I was dancing while I swept the stage... Even though it's just a little Oscar Wilde play, I'm having the time of my life in there. I hope I'm learning something. If anything, I'm learning how much I love being in the theater.

The show itself went really well!! I think the audience liked it a lot, and the acting and transitions and everything was pretty smooth! My favorite part of the play is in Act 3. Specifically, the conversation between the gentlemen. It makes me laugh, and has some of my favorite lines.

Since the show ended, I've been getting stuff done around the dorm room, and now I'm hanging out with Jessie, Sneha, Kate, and Jinny. We're having our own little karaoke night in here, except we're all singing together, and my throat is not happy, but I'm having fun :) I need to go to sleep pretty soon here, but that's ok.

Today was fantastic. Utterly fantastic. I love opening night!!!! I'm excited for the rest of the run this weekend too :)

Fight on, friends.

I Need a New Perspective- November 6, 2013

I've been living my life wrong.

Part of me always knew this about myself... in the back of my mind, at the least, but today it hit me like a ton of bricks. Let me explain.

First of all, today was quite lovely! Acting class started the day off, as usual. Poor Mary Joan (our professor, in case you didn't know) had lost her voice, but we still were able to start a new project- One acts! I was cast as a character named Kitty in a one act called "Perfect."

After that was my philosophy discussion... and I could barely stay awake the entire time... So I went back to my dorm and took a nap. That might've been the reason the rest of my day was able to turn around so fast, come to think of it! After that I got some exercise for once, and spent the remaining part of the hour roaming around the Farmer's Market, getting myself some healthy snacks :)

Ok. So then I went to meet up with Mary Joan for her office hours. We spent an hour talking and reviewing the notes from my performance for the Neutral Scenes that we did for a grade. And that's where she finally told me to my face what I needed to hear: I am judging myself far too much, and it's keeping me back.

It's so true. I'm a worry wart and a control freak. I knew that, but I didn't see before what a problem it was presenting in my acting... and in my life! Why am I so worried about doing everything "right" instead of just going out and enjoying life! It's ok to not know things, and it's ok not to be in control of things. That's how I learn, and learning should excite me, whenever there's something I don't know, or that isn't quite working. But I'll never know unless I go for broke and stop judging myself for everything I do. On top of all that, I need to get my priorities straight. What is it I really want to focus on in my studies? In what I do in general? all these things I'm doing in college aren't just more things to add to my To Do List: They need to be things that excite me and that I don't need motivation to do.... does that make sense? I guess, to simplify... IF there's something I'm doing here that I'm truly passionate about, then it's ok to prioritize that in my life. It's ok to not be perfect at everything, as long as you know you aren't.

And to top it all off... I've been taking life for granted. Isn't that horribly ironic? I've always considered myself an optimist who loves life and enjoys living in general. Plus, with losing Walker so recently... You'd think I'd have such a good grasp on how wonderful life really is. But I've been just going through each day thinking about what it contained instead of what it really was: an opportunity and a fresh start. I think this is part of the reason why I haven't been so enthusiastic about learning either. Life is full of things to explore. Learning about it should excite me! Shouldn't it? At any rate, it will if I can look at life from a different perspective... as a gift and a privilege and full of mystery and possibility. And truly looking for something new to learn with each day that goes by.

I've been trying to do too much, these past few months. I don't have to do it all. Now... I guess I just have to decide what I want to do most. What is actually important to me? What am I ok with letting slide, or not giving my full attention to?

All in all... it's hard to explain. But it was quite an epiphany... and still is! My goal for the rest of the semester (and perhaps for a long time after) will be to get in a habit of looking at life with a bright perspective, no matter what, and to stop my constant self-evaluation (unless it's really needed) so I can "go for broke" in all I do (not literally. Don't worry. I'll take care of my money!).

Besides all this, Mary Joan was super encouraging to me. She told me I was doing great in the class and that I have an actor's intuition, which means the world to me. I think I just really needed to hear that affirmation that I'm doing well here, and that I'm fitting in and holding my own amongst all these talented, incredible people I'm surrounded by. I'm so grateful and glad I got to spend the time with her to hear what she had to say.

You know... I'm grateful for this entire semester.

But the day goes on, especially since I was feeling so much better about myself and life and... everything! I got lunch at Parkside, made a detour through the School of Fine Arts, and then went to the Philosophy library before my Philosophy class. I was able to pay more attention this time, and even caught a way to oppose an argument, which made me proud of me.

Jinny went to dinner with me, though we caught up with Jessie and Kieryn while we were in EVK. They're so great :) Then it was off to the theater!!

Tonight we had our first audience. It was an open Dress Rehearsal, so there were about 20-30 people who came to get a sneak preview of the show before it officially opens tomorrow.

I had a blast. Zach and Jeff, the boys that crew on stage left, are really funny and fun to hang out with! I've been spending more time on stage left too, so I've gotten to talk to them many a time. We're a great dishwashing crew too. We've got a whole system of how we get the dishes done nowadays, and we used to be pretty fast at it until they changed the champagne glasses. Now they're harder to clean and carry :P

Also, remember those Toffee Almonds I was raving about yesterday? The girl that plays Lady Windemere, Natalie, heard me and some of my friends on the costume crew talking about them and being super excited about them, so she bought some for all us crew members!!! It was really sweet of her! :)

I'm so excited for the show to open... and I'm not even in the cast! Just the crew! I hope people like it a lot.

Anyways, I've been back in my dorm room for a while now. Got ready for bed, did my nails while working on my Spanish project, and tomorrow I'm going to spend nearly all the day scrambling to get this Spanish project done. Oh well. I did the important part tonight, which is what matters, right?

That part of the project was watching a Spanish movie, actually. I watched "Medianeras," which translates to "Sidewalls." It was a really cute movie. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would! So go ahead and check that out if you're looking for a really sweet romance.

I really hope that all I'm learning, both today and anything I might've learned before now, will stick with me. I don't want to forget anything... but I don't know how to remember best. Maybe writing it down here helps? Maybe that's just how life works: we need constant reminders because it's impossible to ever remember fully? Maybe I just...will remember?

My other worry is about my Christian life... I've felt my gaze slipping from God so often this past week or two. I just constantly forget about his presence around me, or I don't pay attention to him, or I just forget to spend any good, quality time with Him. Prayers for that would be great, which is why I'm telling you all. If you have time, or are thinking of me, pray that I'll be constantly, annoyingly reminded of God's presence here on campus and with me, and that I'll be able to grow closer to Him, even in the midst of all the busyness that happens here.

...I'm really grateful for all of you. Thank you for taking the time to read about me. I love you <3

And because you're all so wonderful, I'll try to switch up tomorrow's blog. I've been wanting to do a blog in pictures one of these days... Maybe that'll be tomorrow? It'll happen sometime this weekend; I want to show you all the theater!!!

Ok, now I'm just rambling. I think it's time to get some sleep.

The Road to Self-Discovery- November 5, 2013

Remember, remember, the fifth of November.
Gunpowder, treason, and plot.
I see no reason why this act of treason
Should ever be forgot....

Happy Guy Fawkes day!!!! It has nothing to do with my blog post, but it makes me happy all the same :)

I've discovered a new fatal weakness: Toffee Almonds. They are so. good. Spiced almonds are pretty good too, but Toffee Almonds. Seriously. I ate waaaayyyy too many of them tonight, and now I'm suffering for it.... but I think it might've been worth it.

For the most part, today was a typical Tuesday; Theater 130 lecture came first, where I learned about sound systems in the theater. I wasted a bit of time hanging out in the sun afterwards before working on my Spanish presentation. My mom called when I was back at the dorm, and I talked to her for a good long while before getting lunch and going to my next class. I got ready for working at the theater, then I had Spanish class. Then I went to the theater to work.

On my way there, I ran into a cast member while I was grabbing some dinner at Seeds. He was also grabbing some food. We ended up walking to the theater together and talking about the show and auditions and theater in general. He's really neat! Oh, and his name's Sam. He plays Lord Windemere in the show and I think he does a great job, so it was cool to talk to him.

I have a lot of fun in the wings. The other crew members are actors too, so we have a lot of fun putting on characters and talking about random things or just talking. Plus, since the show has so many British accents, we can't help but to put on an accent or two ourselves occasionally. At least, I can't. It seems so natural when I'm backstage to do so!!!
I made a few mistakes again tonight, but not like last time! So I'm happy with that! And now I"m back in my dorm and have been for a while, being on my computer and not going to bed when I should've been sleeping an hour ago.

The most important thing that happened today for me was a bit of self-analysis. Three things, in particular, that stood out to me today:

1) I want to be an actress when I grow up.

Talking to the cast members and being backstage today (but mostly talking to the cast members) reminded me today how exquisite and complex and multi-layered theater is. There's beauty on so many levels of it... and a depth too. Every story has depth to it, and the actor just adds an additional layer of depth by adding an interpretation. It's creating an entire universe, it's traveling back in time, it's... it's inexplainable. But I was inspired today to keep striving for it... and reminded that there's really, truly, honestly nothing else in the whole world I'd rather be.

2) The only way to get what I'm aiming for is to work my butt off.

Some of the advice I got today was to read lots and lots of plays. That's a lot of work. It's a lot of work to take monologues from those plays and perfect them. It's a lot of work to make an effort to refine, over and over again how you portray a message. It takes a lot of work to learn to sing and to keep your voice in good condition. It takes a lot of work and concentration and focus just to be in a theater. That's the only way I can actually get to where I'm going- I need to work hard and harder at what I'm trying to do. I'm not working hard enough, and I know it. I don't know how I'll work harder, but it's something that has to be done, so I'll find a way to figure it out.

3) I have way too much ambition for my own good.

I'm trying to do too much. There's too much that I want. Let's face it: I have pretty rotten self-control (all those toffee almonds?), I'm pretty lazy at times, and I don't manage my time as well as I could. Not to mention I get distracted fairly often. What makes me think I can do everything I think I can do? I have nothing but ambition to keep me going in achieving my goals. And ambition is not enough.

This is what I'm in college for though, right? To figure out who I am and to keep working toward what I want to do. I'm getting there, slowly. I wish I could snap my fingers and suddenly have my life figured out, but that hasn't worked yet. I'm working on it.

Am I doing too much, or not enough? Or both at the same time? Meh, I'll figure it out in Philosophy class...

Also, any thoughts? Advice? I always appreciate it.

Fight on, friends.

Caught Up!- November 1-4, 2013

Ok, let's continue what I was talking about yesterday, shall we?

But quickly... I'm exhausted...

Friday started out pretty dully. I was going to help a friend out with a project for Trojan Vision, the TV channel run by the school, but she wasn't able to get a camera so that was postponed. I don't really mind though. I had my voice lesson at 10 anyways so getting up early didn't make a difference.
The lesson went well too.

It was a really pretty day on Friday... that I remember well. I felt really happy and the weather was beautiful. I sat outside around the music school for quite a while, just taking it all in...

So then I had class. I like classes, for the most part.

To the best of my memory, I spent the afternoon either doing nothing, getting homework done, hanging out, or doing something similar to those items...

I was a bit late to get to the theater to work for Lady Windemere's Fan, though, and felt pretty bad about it... It went pretty well! We figured out set changes for the first time and got accustomed to the area and our jobs. Then we started helping with the lighting process. The cast members weren't called, so I got to stand in as Lady Windemere as they figured out how the scenes should be lit for a few of the scenes. I felt pretty cool, can't lie. It was fun!!

After the rehearsal, I met up with Thomas and we went to a show at 11pm: Macbeth. It was simultaneously a horrible idea, and a fantastic idea.

Fantastic idea: I got to hang out with Thomas, who is awesome and always a ton of fun to hang out with! The show was great, and I really enjoyed seeing some of my friends here performing onstage. And then, I got to swing dance with the guy that played Macbeth. Totally out of the blue. He was dancing with a friend, and I felt jealous since I hadn't danced in a while. I made a comment about it, mostly to myself, but he turned to me and offered to dance a bit. So we did! And it was lovely :)

Horrible idea: It ended at 1am. I was already feeling horribly tired and crummy before the show started, and staying up late made it a bit worse. ...I felt awful, actually. It'd been an exhausting week, so staying up really late two nights in a row wasn't a fantastic idea.

That was pretty obvious Saturday morning, when I woke up still feeling horribly sleepy... Nevertheless, I was called to the theater at 10am! Caffeinated tea in hand, thank our heavenly Father above.

Saturday at the theater was a looong day of teching the entire show. We started at the beginning and moved in slow motion that, in my opinion, was slow even for tech. What made that nice was that I got to get some homework done in the wings, as well as talk and hang out with the cast and crew members. Plus, we got a nice break from 3-5pm to get food and get out of the theater for a bit! Nevertheless, we didn't leave until about 10pm.

Sunday was very similar. Called at 10, and then we ran through the entire show (still tech rehearsals, but at a much faster pace and hardly ever having to hold the show). After our typical 3-5 break, we did it all over again. As it was the day before, homework got done and bonding between cast and crew happened. Hooray!

Sunday was also nicer because I wasn't feeling like I was about to fall over from tiredness the entire day. Actually, I was feeling so much better, and we got out early enough afterwards, that I watched another old Disney Movie! The Three Caballeros, this time. It made me feel so nostalgic at times... except the end. The end was trippy, but oh well.

I'm finding it's so easy to sound like I'm complaining about working in the theater. I'm honestly not. I love being there!!! It feels really good to be working on a show of some kind in a theater again. It feels like home :)

TODAY. Finally. We're updated!!!!!

I love my acting class. I say that over and over again, but I'm learning so much in it: about myself, about my mistakes onstage, about what to look for in other people's performances, about what to look for in my own performance, why theater matters, and on and on and on. Plus, the people in the class are fantastic. All-around great people :)

I went to my THTR 130 Lab time, and it was there that my day got made, just a little bit. I got to smash a bar used on the set of the last show (one that I missed called Infinite Black Suitcase) with a sledgehammer. We smashed it to pieces. It was almost as fun as riding on top of the platforms the week before!!! Also, I'm getting more used to the staple gun! I don't like the gust of air that gets put in my face, but it can't be avoided, so oh well.

After getting lunch I went on a bit of a cleaning rampage in my room. Then it was my Philosophy class, which was much more entertaining than usual.
For starters, the projector keeps acting up in class. It'll black out, so that you can't see the screen anymore for about 10 seconds or so, which isn't really a problem except that a TA is typing up notes that are being projected onto the screen for people to see. We called the Tech people, in class, again to come fix the problem, but later in class there was a funny moment. Jake pointed up to the screen to give a visual example of something he was talking about, and the moment he put his hand up, the screen blacked out. So what he was saying went a bit like this:

"So as you can see here.. bloody hell......"

For some reason, it's really funny to hear my Jake say that. Jake's my professor's name, by the way... Other things that happened were he showed us a video that another one of his classes made as part of some assignment. One of the students starts the video with a SPOT ON Jake impression. You have to have been to a couple of lectures to get it, but I was dying of laughter. He hit all of the little things Jake does on the nose!!! Then, at the end of the class, we started talking about determinism. He gave an idea of an approach someone might have, if determinism were to be true. He called it the... well, I guess I need to keep this blog censored. Let's call it the "Fudge it" theory.

Again, what he actually said was so out of place for him and so comical in context that I, once again, was laughing quite a bit.

Jinny and I went to dinner after class, and then I went back to the theater!!!

Tonight's tech wasn't quite as fun as the nights before... I felt like I made a lot of mistakes. One of them was somewhat big: I forgot to set props on the desk in Act 4. They were still accessible to the actors, since they were in the drawer, but I should've put them on top of the desk... I'm still kicking myself for it. On top of all that, I felt like I was always in the way, or getting distracted all the time (the costumes are so gorgeous!!!) or... I don't know. Whatever it is I do that ticks people off. I just feel like I screwed up... I hate those days. They make you feel like you should just leave the theater and never come back...

I won't, of course, but that doesn't mean I don't feel that way at times...

Maybe tomorrow will go better. I'll just be more on my game, that's all! More energetic, more out of the way, and less distracted....

Someone please tell me I'm doing something right at this school. I'm getting really excited for Thanksgiving and going home...

Fight on, friends.

More Whirlwind Week and Halloween!!!- October 29-31, 2013

I'm still alive!!!

Barely, but I'm here nonetheless!!

Remember how I called this week a whirlwind week in my last post?

"No, Rachel, we don't. Your last post was back before DVD's existed and Miley Cyrus was still called Hannah Montana."

....Well, I did.

It's been exactly that: a whirlwind of a week. I apologize for not being able to keep you all more updated, but I've been rushing about like crazy trying to get things done when they needed to be. As a result of not keeping track via this blog what I've been up to every day, however... I don't remember all the details of what I did every day anymore. Bear with me please and thank you.

Tuesday involved a lot of homework-getting-doneing. Or, at least, stressing out about getting a bunch of homework done. Spanish class, for example, has been throwing out things due almost every single week, and this week there is something due every class for the next three classes. Including Tuesday. I had my online homeworks due at the end of the day, and the internet connection was making it even more difficult to get it all done. Aaahh!!!

I also finished filming that student film on Tuesday! We only had a few more scenes to do, and I did... ok... I think. I still feel like I didn't quite do my best.

Right after the student film, I rehearsed with my group for the scene we were going to perform in Drama class for a grade... that'll make you nervous. Especially when you feel like the weakest part of the scene because you can't get your lines quite right and you can't figure out what you're doing wrong but you just want to keep repeating the lines over and over until you can figure out exactly what you're doing.... but then you can't, because you're surrounded by people and you don't want to seem like an idiot...

So yeah. Tuesday was stressful.

Wednesday... shoot... what happened Wednesday...

Oh! The day started out stressful: we performed our scenes for a grade and had to do a written component along with the scenes... but afterwards I felt horrid about feeling stressful, because my professor made an interesting comment, "You're actors! Whenever you ever get the chance to show the audience something you should be ecstatic!"

...yeah... I should... Why was I so stressed then? I should be relishing each moment I have to perform and being super excited about getting the chance to do so... is something wrong with me as an actress?? Why was I so stressed??
The scene itself went ok. Wasn't the best, for sure, but I'm not going to think about it for now.

I had my Philosophy discussion session, which was interesting! I like my TA a lot. He can be a bit dull, at times, but you can tell that he really loves his subject, and thoroughly understands it, so that's always helpful! He'll make a great professor someday, if he decides to take that route.

I also found time to work out on Wednesday! Huzzah!

Hmm... what else did I do... I had class...

Oh! There was a themed dinner at EVK for Halloween!! It was ok. The food wasn't spectacular but Jinny got fresh fruit, which made her really happy :)
I think the rest of the night was just getting homework done and chilling out...

Thursday was Halloween, as many of you know. A lot of people on campus were walking around in partial or full costume for the occasion. As for me? I was too exhausted to even think about it... I woke up feeling horrible, just because I was feeling the effects of being so stressed out and being up so late the week beforehand...

My first class was pretty neat, since we had some guest speakers in! But between classes was awful... On top of feeling really crummy, I didn't get very much studying done for my Spanish test. Actually, I studied a little bit about 10 minutes before I walked into the class... I hope I did ok. It wasn't too bad after all, so I'm not worried anymore. But still. Yikes.

And here's the event that I'd been prepping for in attempting to finish all my homework so soon the week before: Lady Windemere's Fan!

I'm working backstage on the crew for Lady Windemere's Fan, a play by Oscar Wilde and also an SDA show (school of dramatic arts). It's the first time I've worked backstage for something at USC. So... yay!!! On Thursday we met everyone else in the cast and on crew, then the crew got to watch a run through of the show for the first time, to get familiar with the story and all. It was very good! I enjoyed it!! I also really love Oscar Wilde. He's my favorite playwright, I think :)

I got back to my dorm room still feeling pretty crummy, and very unsure of what to do, but eventually worked up the nerve/was convinced and figured the risk was worth taking to go to a Halloween party with my friends. I dressed as a Greek goddess, Artemis, in particular, while Jinny was a Fashion Police, Sneha was a cowgirl, Jessie was a tennis player, and Vidhi was the universe (after much debate and confusion. She looked lovely though!). We went out to a house behind a huge auditorium and somewhat nearby the Row.

So... my first college party!!! It smelt really bad, for starters. Ew. Smoke and alcohol and pot everywhere. Everybody smelled bad. By the end of the night, I felt like the stench was clinging to me, even though I had nothing to drink. However, I also saw some people I knew, and got to talk to them more!! Plus they knew people who knew other people. So I made some new friends and spent pretty much the whole time talking. I did dance a bit at the end too :)
I went back a bit earlier than the others with Jessie and one of her friends. We went to Starbucks and then I went to sleep. So, overall, it was really fun!! But the smell ruined it for me a little bit. I'd have preferred if it was quieter and cleaner. (fat chance for college parties, but I can dream, can't I?)

FRIDAY. Are we finally on Friday?

This blog is taking forever. NEVER let me do this again please ok thanks.

Actually, I might just continue it tomorrow. Sounds like a plan. It's late and I need sleep for my 8am class tomorrow!!!

Fight on, friends!

Whirlwind Week: Part 1- October 28, 2013

I hate college.

Correction: I hate how college has messed up my sleep cycle. There is NO way I should be up this late. For any reason. Ever. Granted, I've been up later, but not because of school work!!! :( Grrr.....

Ready for the whirlwind? Here we go.

8am- Intro to Acting class, which I was almost late for. It was a lot of fun though!! We ran through scenes and are almost ready for performing them for a grade now. Yikes. I did my scene today though, and it went pretty ok! We need rehearsal, but we'll get it tomorrow.

10am- Theater 130 Lab. I had fun here too! I was the only student helping out on pretty easy jobs- going down to the basement of the Shrine Auditorium where USC keeps a storage of old props and set pieces and things. It felt straight out of Indiana Jones, especially the cart ride down the long ramp into a dark, spooky-feeling, but really cool place of artifacts. We made two trips there. On the first trip back, I made a friend because I met one of the guys who was in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels! He was at the street corner handing out free granola bars for his job, and he knew Kate, the worker I was helping today. The second time back, we had Duncan with us (basically the boss of this whole theater production group. He teaches the lecture) so that he could help Kate with platforms and things. There were only two seats that were open in the cart, so I got to sit on top of all the platforms!!! It was so fun!!! Definitely the highlight of my day, right there.

1pm- Lunch at Parkside, then scurrying back to my dorm. Packing up two bags with what I'll need for the rest of the day, then starting a bit of homework before I have to leave for my next class at...

3:30- Philosophy. We read a paper that my professor wrote for homework over the past week. It was kind of cute seeing him get a little bit more humble when talking about his own paper. Maybe it was just because it was the topic that fascinated him the most and that he understood the best. I wish I hadn't felt so distracted by everything else coming up after class during class, but for the parts that I could give my full attention, I enjoyed it!

5- Navigated my way pretty quickly to the Marshall School of Business. New area of campus!!! It's quite nice, but by far the most crowded I've seen a building be during a school day. I attended an information session about a Business minor, and confirmed for myself that I do want to apply. I have to have taken 32 units at USC before I can apply though, so I'll wait until next semester to officially do so.

6- Walked as quickly as I could over to Yogurtland, where I met Nicole, Christine, and my friend from earlier today that was handing out granola bars!!! His name's Drew. We went over to Nicole's apartment, where we were going to film her 290 student film. Christine was Nicole's crew member helping her out, and Drew was acting in it with me! Kat, a girl on my floor, was also in it, and joined us later! We had a really fun time, especially because it started raining outside, which made things just a bit more exciting. I found it a little hard to concentrate on what I was doing... but I've got a second shot tomorrow. We filmed up until about halfway through the script, but we had to stop because a) we didn't have fake blood (it's not me drenched in it this time, no worries!) and b) Kat had to leave early.

9- I get back to campus and get a bit of food at EVK with Jinny. Then it's to the room and starting homework.... and homework... and homework... and a bit of breaks here and there... but mostly getting stuff done.

And here I am.

Let's do it all again tomorrow... after I finish this chapter.... I'm exhausted.

Fight on, friends.

Kicking Butt- October 27, 2013

You know the best thing about Sundays? The libraries and dorm rooms are so crowded, you can walk around campus feeling like you've got the entire place to yourself. :)

This morning, Jinny woke me up at 9:50 reminding me I signed up for an event with her at 10am and we only had 10 minutes to get there... I'd completely forgotten about it, so it kinda messed up my whole plan for the day in which I was going to spend the whole day getting lots and lots done.

But anyway, we made it there on-time, and it turned out to be pretty fun and worth the time!!

What was it, you ask? Drumroll...

I took a self-defense class!!

It was part 1 of 2. I need both parts of the class in order to actually have a certificate of completion, but that's next week. Anyway, our dorm building officer offered up RAD (rape aggression defense) classes to girls in the building who were interested, and if there was enough interest, he'd teach it! My RA, Hannah, got together enough people to be interested so that the class actually happened, and Jinny and I were two of the people who put in interest! So there ya go! I learned some basics of how to stay safe that didn't involve kicking somebody's butt, like around the house and at your car and all that jazz, and that took up most of the time. But then we got out of the books and actually started learning how to kick somebody's butt. It was awesome.

So yeah, I can kick butt now. Watch out peoples. *Insert tough looking facial expression here*

The problem was that that took up literally ALL of my morning. What I said about it messing my schedule up? Yeah, I wasn't free until 2... Oh well.

The rest of the day has been me just trying to buy that time back by being as productive as I can be. Homework, to do list stuff, etc. In that mix of getting stuff done, I was cast in a film! I'd forgotten I'd expressed interest to the film student doing the film (just for class), but she got back to me and offered me a role! So I'm filming tomorrow and Tuesday... Plans are getting warped all over the place today! Also, my character might have to kill somebody (off camera), which is kinda.... woah.... But still, I'm excited!

Speaking of films, I finally watched the two films that I was in earlier this semester. It wasn't as bad as I thought the experience of seeing myself would be! But I still think I can improve in a couple of ways... At least, I think so. Maybe I should get somebody who's really really good at acting to watch them and critique me... but I'll try something different with this next film anyways, just to try and improve a little bit. That's the point, isn't it? To learn a little bit with each experience? We'll see how it goes.

Well, today was only the start, and it's gonna be a looooong busy week.... I'm buckling up for quite a wild ride.

Fight on, friends.
