Trojan Friends- August 24, 2013

I figured I should start writing the date on these blogs, so I can remember when they were.

In an effort to get a kickstart on some good habits, I worked out this morning for the first time on-campus! I'd have to say it was relatively successful, even though both the track and the Lyon center were closed :(. Oh well.

After a really nice (even though it was late) breakfast with Jinny, we got down to business. Went for a walk to the Health Center and bookstore, then came back to the room. I emailed some professors (hoping for voice lessons... fingers crossed!), put my theater resume together, and started my very first work resume... yikes... I'm so lucky to have girls on my floor with tons of experience knowing how to put together a resume so it looks great. They helped me out a lot, and I think I've got a pretty good start!! We'll see how the interview goes tomorrow... some people who interviewed today have already been hired!

Kate and I went for a very late lunch at the Campus Center, and then I hung out with some really fun girls on my dorm talking and playing a game before finishing up my resume. After that... the wait began...

Kate and I got there a little late, but still put our names down on the waiting list. We sat down with some other theater and cinematic arts kids, and had a great conversation for a half hour or so! Then... the Visions and Voices leader stood in the middle of the waiters... and made the announcement....

I didn't make it in to see Kristen Chenowith.

As upsetting as this was, I figured it was likely to happen in the first place. Still, I'm disappointed. Kristen Chenowith is absolutely incredible, and I was so grateful for any opportunity to go see her!!! Alas, it was not meant to be.

I went to the Welcome Back Carnival instead and met up with some friends and met some now friends as well! We all went to EVK for dinner, and I really got to know a girl named Bailey. She was so sweet and had a really cool story: she's moved multiple, multiple times, all around the world!

I met so many new friends after dinner!!! I learned the name of a guy I met last night, met Geoff and Alex, and several girls: Nina, Ariel, and Sanya to name a few. Turns out Sanya and I are the same person. No, seriously. We bonded RIGHT away over being obsessed with Disney Princesses!!! Turns out we have tons of other similarities as well. I'm so glad I met her!!! She is so fun and sweet!!!

There was a Welcome back Concert after the Carnival, so we stayed there for a while. We saw the opening act, which was pretty nice, then Rehab the DJ artist came to perform. I liked the special effects better than the actual music, but hey! I've seen Rehab now!

Geoff, Alex, Kieryn, Nina, and I went to Parkside to hang out after a song or so from Rehab. It was super fun!!!

And now, We're all hanging out in the Pardee lounge again. I'm so happy to be meeting so many great people here!! They are all absolutely wonderful, incredibly talented, and very brilliant. They make me wonder why I'm even at this school, but very glad that I am.

Shout-out to Kieryn and Jinny!!! Kieryn's written three books: go read them! Kieryn Nicolas. I don't know the book titles. And Jinny is a wonderful, absolutely gorgeous roommate. They asked for shout outs :)

Seriously though, what amazing people. I can't wait to get to know more people and get to know these people better.

And to those friends I have already made, Fight on, wherever you are. Thinking of and praying for you all.

  1. Rach- at orientation, a USC speaker gave some statistics. He said 47,500 applications were send by prospective high school seniors last year. 2900 were accepted. For whatever reason, some "official
" saw more than a smart girl, they saw your heart and your drive. They thought you were a great addition as I do. Believe it and let those dreams replace the doubt ~ Mom
